As part of monthly informal collectors’ life care activities, VietCycle Joint Stock Company cooperates with the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) to support rent.
Most of the informal collectors are migrant workers from the countryside of Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and some mountainous provinces in the North of Vietnam. The informal scrap collection work in Hanoi gives them flexibility in their time to combine different jobs and take care of their families both in Hanoi and in the countryside. But because they spend most of their time traveling on the street, they overlook where to live, the quality and living conditions are minimal. Realizing that, VietCycle supports a part of the monthly rent for collectors who have difficulty improving their lives.

The 3-year journey of building and accompanying VCC’s informal collection network has been and will be continued to develop with much support from domestic and foreign communities/partners. Each member of VietCycle personally also hopes that the support will reach the right people, while it is still possible.
Ms. Giang, a VietCycle employee shared: “During the time I spent with informal collectors, I saw many difficult situations. Like many other professions, they also work hard to be able to maintain a living in Hanoi and also in the countryside. They still pick up bottles and scraps every day; still trying to stay in Hanoi for many reasons. Sometimes when I go visit them, I feel very pitiful. Sometimes a lady comes out to receive support and greets me “I still try to pick up scrap, but this may be the last time, because I’m too weak. I have one foot in the grave, my dear. Thank you and the company for accompanying us.” Many other stories have helped me to see the support and the work I have been doing have become more meaningful. Hope to still be accompanied and provide something for informal collectors. No matter how much or how little, it means a lot to them.”
The house of a disadvantaged informal collector was provided by Ms. Giang.
We would like to thank the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) for accompanying and supporting this activity during the past 9 months. It is hoped that more and more units will care about accompanying and sharing human values with VietCycle.
