VietCycle and ALBA Group Asia award bicycles to members of the plastic waste collection network

On the morning of July 17, 2023, VietCycle Joint Stock Company, the company with the leading plastic waste collection network and recycling experience in the North of Vietnam, together with the representative of ALBA Group Asia – a globally renowned environmental service provider for top quality recycling and smart waste management solutions with more than 50 years of experience in Europe, awarded bicycles to 15 members of the plastic waste collection network.

In the context that the Vietnamese Government is fiercely fighting against plastic waste pollution, gradually building a circular economy, the profession of collecting and sorting plastic waste becomes an important link in the circular value chain. Chairman of ALBA Group Asia – Dr. Axel Schweitzer and Chairman of VietCycle Joint Stock Company – Mr. Hoang Duc Vuong agreed on the indispensable role of women collecting and sorting waste. They are unsung heroes in environmental protection, contributing to the common vision of a “zero waste world”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mingxi Zhao, representative of ALBA Group Asia commented: “As we move towards our vision of a zero-waste world, we recognize the indispensable role of informal collectors. They have shown incredible resilience and dedication. From there, through these bicycles, we hope to partially support the lives of network members, enhance social benefits and take care of the health of garbage collectors. plastic waste.”

As committed that ALBA and VietCycle will jointly make efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion in the collection system and the entire plastic recycling industry in general, Chairman of VietCycle Joint Stock Company – Mr. Hoang Duc Vuong shared: “Each member is a part of the network and regardless of whether they are male or female, they are quietly contributing to the cause of environmental protection. Every person has their effort, we connect together to build a better life for ourselves and the community.”

At the awarding ceremony, the representative of the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment welcomed the initiatives, supporting the collection and recycling community to contribute to the joint efforts of Hanoi City in particular and the Northern provinces in general on waste management (especially plastic waste).

Excited by the sharing about the recognition as well as future plan, Ms. Vu Thi Nguyet – a core member of the network in Bac Ninh said: “In the past, whether it was a good or a bad day, I had to manage on my own. I encouraged myself that I was doing good for the environment, and this belief kept me going. However, I am so glad to see now a community of people cares about us and gives us presents. We believe that our profession has a better future, and without a doubt, our life will be less difficult.”

ALBA & VCC are not only developing a food-grade PET/HDPE plastic recycling plant with a capacity of up to 48,000 tons/year, but also planning to build a sustainable collection system to contribute more value to the community and the environment. The development of our local partners contributes to creating an alliance to generate solutions for the increasing plastic waste in Vietnam.

The bicycle donation ceremony marked the first step on the path of the partnership between ALBA – VietCycle and recycling collection partners and local authorities. The ceremony was held under the personal sponsorship of Dr. Axel Schweitzer and contribution from VietCycle.
